Iran has 3,300 miles of land bordering seven countries. By comparison, our southern border (the one we can't seem to control) extends 2,000 miles and only has Mexico on the other side. And it seems that we are doing everything we can to surround Iran.

Two days before the New Hampshire primary, Fox News staged a forum for the Republican presidential candidates and invited everyone who was at the ABC debate the day before, except for Ron Paul. They introduced the forum by saying that the GOP nominee would be one of the five candidates who were there, a statement clearly meant to suggest that Ron Paul doesn't have a chance to win.

That may have been the straw that broke the camel's back, if the camel was an American populace growing increasingly impatient and frustrated with Faux News propaganda.

Let's kick off the new year with some out-of-the-box thinking. What if we didn't have public education here in Fairfield County? What if we separated school and state and let education be entirely a private matter?

If you hadn't resolved to be more open-minded this year, you might have dismissed this as foolishness. After all, everybody knows without government we would all be illiterate bums. Privatizing education? Come on. It can't be done, people wouldn't do it even if they could, and it shouldn't be done even if people would.

We should not have speed limits on our largest highways, at least not in the left-most lane, and here's why.

Speed limits have virtually nothing to do with safety. People who speed are not necessarily unsafe, and unsafe drivers don't necessarily speed. In fact, it is already illegal to drive dangerously, regardless of what the posted speed limit is. If a cop thinks you are driving too fast, too slow, or too erratically for the conditions of the road at the time, then you can be charged with reckless driving.
